Chuck Carnell pulled the release on the Terminal Velocity ride and sent 12-year-old Teagan Marti plunging 100 feet to the ground.Carnell later told police, "I just keep seeing her eyes. I see her eyes rolling back in her head. She just dropped and I heard a thud."
Teagan's mother Julie Marti described what she saw when she reached her daughter."Her eyes were rolling back in her head and her lips were turning purple."
Lake Delton Police have released 95 pages of reports from the incident, including statements from a number of witnesses. Two witnesses were on the dive platform with Carnell, 100 feet in the air. Brothers Aron and Brendan Wilds were visiting from Nebraska and were scheduled to drop after Teagan.
Brendan told police after Teagan hit, Chuck got on the radio and said to somebody it was his fault. Brendan says Chuck was sobbing and started hitting himself in the head with his fist. He then asked for his pastor to come to Extreme World.
Chuck Carnell later told police through the trap door he thought the net was up. But he does admit he failed to get an all clear from the rider attendant on the ground.
"I did not do that. I just totally blanked it out. I don't know why...I have no excuse why I didn't do it."
Julie Marti says Carnell was the man Teagan saw on the Travel Channel promoting this ride.
"On the Travel Channel all he talked about was how safe it was. We have this in place, this in place. Didn't happen for my daughter."
Chuck Carnell has been charged with first degree reckless injury.
Teagan Marti remains at UW Hospital. Her condition has been upgraded to fair.
